Job Description

Childcare Manager

An exciting opportunity to manage/lead a team of dedicated Early Childhood Professionals has become available. The service operates three rooms in a newly built premises in Athy town. The service provides full day care and school aged childcare to children aged from one to twelve years of age.

The Childcare Manager will oversee and co-ordinate the efficient operation of the service to the highest standards in line with Tusla and Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To take day to day responsibility for children and staff
  • To ensure high standards of care at the centre
  • Attend meetings and undertake training as required
  • To ensure the effective daily management of the Childcare Service in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Service, the Childcare (Pre School Services) Regulations 2016, any other relevant legislation and good practice requirements.
  • Revise policies and procedures as required
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children attending the Service
  • Adhere to the Child Protection Policy of the service and associated regulations and report any concerns
  • Effectively liaise with statutory bodies and agencies
  • Develop ongoing positive relationships with parents and ensure service is delivered in a family supportive environment
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings
  • Be supportive of the support and mentoring needs of early years educators
  • To be responsible for requirements, management, training, motivation and performance of all childcare staff
  • Ensuring all children are correctly registered and all relevant documentation is gathered
  • Recording of all relevant information for the various programmes and ensuring all data is complete and up to date on a timely basis whilst complying with GDPR
  • Ensure a good standard of hygiene across the service
  • To monitor day to day financial operations within the childcare service, manage budgets and maintain appropriate records
  • Establish and maintain excellent administrative systems
  • Carry out other responsibilities as appropriate to the position that may from time to time be assigned

The successful candidate must have

  • Relevant Third Level Qualification at Level 7 or 8 (BA Early Childhood Studies / Early Childhood Care / Education)
  • A minimum of three years paid experience working in the childcare sector
  • Appropriate completion of Garda Vetting requirements
  • Kindness, warmth and responsiveness to the needs of children
  • Ability to lead a team
  • experience in a managerial position is essential


Full Time 40hours
